一時,佛在舍衛國祇樹給孤獨園,與

時舍衛城中有
T14n0544_p0837a20:大長者子,名曰辯意,[5]從五百長者子——各有
T14n0544_p0837a21:五百侍從——來詣佛所,前以頭面著地,為佛
T14n0544_p0837a22:作禮,却坐一面。於[6]時,辯意長者子察眾坐定,
T14n0544_p0837a23:承佛威神,[7]從坐起,[8]正衣服,儼然而前為佛
T14n0544_p0837a24:作禮,長跪叉手,白佛言:「欲有所問,[9]唯願世
T14n0544_p0837a25:尊慈[10]愍敷演。世尊、至真三界無上道德神
T14n0544_p0837a26:化,濟度群萌[11]普演權道,令眾得所。當來之
T14n0544_p0837a27:世,五濁鼎沸三毒熾盛,以此相燒,無尊無卑
T14n0544_p0837a28:毒[12]念相向,若當臣王以貪國位,興師相伐
T14n0544_p0837a29:身死名滅。當爾之時,災及小民,若佛弟子四
T14n0544_p0837b01:輩之眾,蒙佛遺恩得為道名,外著法[13]衣內
T14n0544_p0837b02:懷嫉妬,無有敬順轉相誹謗,揚惡遏善貢高
T14n0544_p0837b03:非彼。[14]此之人輩,皆是地獄、餓鬼、畜生之分,
T14n0544_p0837b04:利一時之榮,不知後世[15]劫數之殃,當以何
T14n0544_p0837b05:法而[16]開化之?唯願世尊具示教化,使將[17]來
T14n0544_p0837b06:人可蒙此福,得離三塗永處福堂。」
佛言:「善
T14n0544_p0837b07:哉!善哉!辯意長者子,乃於佛前作師子吼,有
T14n0544_p0837b08:所發起開化一切,當來愚闇凶惡之人,得蒙
T14n0544_p0837b09:是義快如[18]是乎!所欲問者莫得疑難,如來
T14n0544_p0837b10:當為分別說之。」
T14n0544_p0837b11:長者子辯意[19]白佛言:「人何因緣得生天上?復
T14n0544_p0837b12:何因緣來生人中?復何因緣生地獄中?復何
T14n0544_p0837b13:因緣[20]常生餓鬼中?復何因緣生畜生中?復
T14n0544_p0837b14:何因緣[21]常生尊貴[22]眾人所敬?復何因緣生
T14n0544_p0837b15:奴婢中為人所使?復何因緣生庶[23]民中,口
T14n0544_p0837b16:氣香潔身心常安,為人所譽不被誹謗?復何
T14n0544_p0837b17:因緣得生[24]為人,常被誹謗為人所憎,形[25]狀
T14n0544_p0837b18:醜惡身意不安,常懷恐怖?復何因緣所生之
T14n0544_p0837b19:處常與佛會,聞法奉持初不差違,遭遇知識
T14n0544_p0837b20:逮得好心,若作沙門常得所願?所問如是,唯
T14n0544_p0837b21:願世尊分別解說,令此眾會得聞正教,願
T14n0544_p0837b22:使一切得濟彼安。」
T14n0544_p0837b23:佛告長者子辯意:「諦聽!諦聽!善思念之!吾當
T14n0544_p0837b24:為汝解說[26]妙要。有五事行得生天上。何謂
T14n0544_p0837b25:為五?一者、慈心,不殺群生悉養物命,令眾得
T14n0544_p0837b26:安;二者、賢良,不盜[27]他物布施無[28]貪,濟諸窮
T14n0544_p0837b27:乏;三者、貞潔,不犯外色男女護戒,奉齋精進;
T14n0544_p0837b28:四者、誠信,不欺於人護口四過,無得貪欺;五
T14n0544_p0837b29:者、不[29]飲酒,不過口行。此五事乃得生天。」

T14n0544_p0838a06:[3]轉相謗毀,不信殃罪無敬順意;四者、反逆
T14n0544_p0838a07:無有上下,君臣父子不相順從;五者、當來有
T14n0544_p0838a08:欲為道者,已得為道,便不[4]順師教而自貢高、
T14n0544_p0838a09:輕慢[5]謗師。是為五事死入地獄,展轉地獄
T14n0544_p0838a10:無有出期。」
爾時世尊,以偈頌曰:

T14n0544_p0838a25:三者、愚[10]冥,無有慈心;四者、積聚財物不肯衣
T14n0544_p0838a26:食;五者、不給父母、兄弟、妻子、奴婢。是為五事
T14n0544_p0838a27:墮餓鬼中。」
爾時,世尊以偈頌曰:

T14n0544_p0838b12:經法;五者、常以因緣艱難,齋戒施會以俗為
T14n0544_p0838b13:緣。是為五事[16]生畜生中。」
[17]於是,世尊以偈

T14n0544_p0838b23:敬佛法三寶及諸長老;三者、忍辱無有瞋恚;
T14n0544_p0838b24:四者、柔和謙[22]下;五者、博[23]聞[24]學誦經戒。是
T14n0544_p0838b25:為五事得為尊貴,眾人所敬。」
爾時世尊,以偈

T14n0544_p0838b27:T14n0544_p0838b28:T14n0544_p0838b29:T14n0544_p0838c01:T14n0544_p0838c02:T14n0544_p0838c03:T14n0544_p0838c04:T14n0544_p0838c05: T14n0544_p0838c06:「復次,長者子!又有五事常生卑賤為人奴婢。

T14n0544_p0838c08:恭恪心;三者、放逸不禮三尊;四者、盜竊以為
T14n0544_p0838c09:生業;五者、負債逃避不償。是為五事,[26]常生
T14n0544_p0838c10:卑賤奴婢之中。」
爾時,世尊以偈頌曰:

T14n0544_p0838c21:者、至誠不欺於人;二者、誦經無有彼此;三者、
T14n0544_p0838c22:護口不[30]謗聖道;四者、教人遠惡就善;五者、
T14n0544_p0838c23:不求人之長短。是為五事生於人中,口氣香
T14n0544_p0838c24:潔身意常安,為人所譽不被誹謗。」
爾時世尊,

T14n0544_p0839a05:謂為五?一者、常無至誠欺詐於人;二者、大會
T14n0544_p0839a06:有[2]說法[3]處而誹謗之;三者、見諸同學而輕
T14n0544_p0839a07:試之;四者、不見他事而為作過;五者、兩舌鬪
T14n0544_p0839a08:亂彼此。是為五事,若在人中常被誹謗,為人
T14n0544_p0839a09:所憎形體醜惡,心意不寧常懷恐怖。」

T14n0544_p0839a24:[9]令事;二者、作佛形像當使鮮[10]潔;三者、常奉
T14n0544_p0839a25:師教不犯所受;四者、普慈一切與身正等,如
T14n0544_p0839a26:愛赤子;五者、所受經法晝夜諷誦。是為五事,
T14n0544_p0839a27:所生之處常與佛、法、眾會,初不差違,見佛聞
T14n0544_p0839a28:法便得好心,若作沙門即得所願。」
爾時世尊,

T14n0544_p0839b09:淨,又諸會者各得其志。於是,辯意[13]即從座
T14n0544_p0839b10:起,為佛作禮,長跪叉手白佛言:「善哉!世尊!快
T14n0544_p0839b11:說[14]此法,乃令會者[15]得聞其所,復使將來濟
T14n0544_p0839b12:度厄難。唯願世尊過於貧聚,及諸眾[16]會,明日
T14n0544_p0839b13:日中屈於舍食。」爾時,世尊默然而許。諸長者
T14n0544_p0839b14:子為佛作禮歡喜而去。
辯意到舍白父母言:
T14n0544_p0839b15:「今所請者,人中難有,名曰如來,無上法師,三
T14n0544_p0839b16:界無比。」便告其妻,令設[17]飯食即[18]尋具饌。

T14n0544_p0839b17:日世尊與諸大眾,往到其[19]家就坐儼然。時辯
T14n0544_p0839b18:意長者[20]子父母眷屬,前禮佛足,各自供侍。辯
T14n0544_p0839b19:意起行澡水,敬意奉食。下食未訖,有一乞兒
T14n0544_p0839b20:前歷座乞,佛未呪願,無敢與者,遍無所得,瞋
T14n0544_p0839b21:恚而出,便生惡念:「此諸沙門放逸愚惑,有何
T14n0544_p0839b22:道哉?貧者從乞,無心見與。長者迷惑,用為飯
T14n0544_p0839b23:此無慈愍意。吾為王者,以鐵輞車轢斷其頭!」
T14n0544_p0839b24:言已便去。
佛[21]達嚫訖,有一乞兒來入乞匃,
T14n0544_p0839b25:座中眾人各各與之,大得飯食,歡喜而去,即
T14n0544_p0839b26:生[22]念言:「此諸沙門皆有慈心,憐吾貧[23]寒,施
T14n0544_p0839b27:食充飽,得濟數日。善哉!長者乃能供事此等
T14n0544_p0839b28:大士,其福無量。吾為王者,當供養佛及眾
T14n0544_p0839b29:弟子,乃至七日之中,當報今日饑渴之恩。」言
T14n0544_p0839c01:已便去。佛食已訖說法,即還精舍[24]之中。佛
T14n0544_p0839c02:告阿難:「從今[*]以後嚫訖下食以此為[25]常。」
T14n0544_p0839c03:時二乞兒展轉乞匃到他國中,臥於道邊深
T14n0544_p0839c04:草之中。時彼國王忽然崩亡,無有[26]係嗣。時國
T14n0544_p0839c05:相師明知相法,讖書記曰:「當有賤人應為王
T14n0544_p0839c06:者。」諸臣百官千乘萬騎,案行國界,誰應為王。
T14n0544_p0839c07:顧見道邊深草之中,上有雲蓋。相師[27]指曰:
T14n0544_p0839c08:「中有神人!」即見乞兒,相應為[28]王。諸臣拜謁,
T14n0544_p0839c09:各[29]稱曰臣。
乞兒驚愕,自云下賤非是王種。
T14n0544_p0839c10:皆言應相,非是強力。沐浴香湯,著王者之服,
T14n0544_p0839c11:光相儼然,稱善無量,導從前後,迴車入國。時
T14n0544_p0839c12:惡念者在[30]於深草中臥寐不覺,車轢斷其
T14n0544_p0839c13:頭。王到國中,陰陽和調,四氣隆赫,人民安
T14n0544_p0839c14:樂,稱王之德。
爾時國王自念:「昔者[31]貧窮之人,
T14n0544_p0839c15:以何因緣得為國王?昔行乞[32]時,得蒙佛恩,大
T14n0544_p0839c16:得飯食,便生善念:『得為王[33]者,[34]供養[35]七日。』
T14n0544_p0839c17:佛之恩德今[36]已果之。」即召群臣,遙向舍衛國
T14n0544_p0839c18:燒香[37]作禮。即遣使者,往請佛言:「蒙世尊遺
T14n0544_p0839c19:恩,得為人王。願屈尊神,來化此國愚冥之人,
T14n0544_p0839c20:得見教訓。」於[38]是佛告諸弟子:「當受彼請。」
佛
T14n0544_p0839c21:與[39]弟子無央數眾往到彼國。時王出迎,與諸
T14n0544_p0839c22:群臣稽首佛足,燒香散華,伎樂供養。佛入宮
T14n0544_p0839c23:中即以就座,王起行水,供[40]設飯食,須臾[*]以
T14n0544_p0839c24:訖。爾時,國王為佛作禮前白佛言:「我本是小
T14n0544_p0839c25:人,有何福行得享斯位?願佛解說,令此國人
T14n0544_p0839c26:[41]得蒙開[42]眼。」
T14n0544_p0839c27:佛告王曰:「往日舍衛城中有長者子,名曰辯
T14n0544_p0839c28:意,施設大檀,請佛及僧。時佛坐定,下食未嚫,
T14n0544_p0839c29:有一乞兒,來入欲乞,一無所得,瞋恚而出,惡
T14n0544_p0840a01:念生曰:『若[1]吾為王,以鐵輞車轢斷[2]僧頭!』一
T14n0544_p0840a02:人後來,乞匃大得[3]飯食,出即念言:『若我為
T14n0544_p0840a03:王,供養[4]此等眾聖之僧七日之中。』時善念
T14n0544_p0840a04:者,今王是也;時惡念者,臥深草中,王受正位,
T14n0544_p0840a05:迴車入國,車騎侍從轢斷其頭,死入地獄,為
T14n0544_p0840a06:火車所轢,億劫乃出。王今請佛,報誓過厚,世
T14n0544_p0840a07:世受福,無有極已。」
爾時世尊以偈頌曰:
T14n0544_p0840a08:T14n0544_p0840a09:T14n0544_p0840a10:T14n0544_p0840a11:T14n0544_p0840a12:T14n0544_p0840a13:T14n0544_p0840a14:T14n0544_p0840a15: T14n0544_p0840a16:是時,國王聞經歡喜,舉國臣民得須陀洹道。
T14n0544_p0840a17:供養佛七日之後,佛於是[8]欲去,王及臣民為
T14n0544_p0840a18:佛作[9]禮而別,於是世尊還到舍衛祇樹精舍。
T14n0544_p0840a19:賢者阿難[10]政衣服,從[11]坐起,為佛作禮,長跪
T14n0544_p0840a20:白佛[12]言:「當以何名[13]此經,云何奉[14]行?」
佛告
T14n0544_p0840a21:阿難:「是經名[15]為『辯意長者子所問』,當奉持
T14n0544_p0840a22:之,一名『諸法要義』。」
佛復告阿難:「若[16]有善男
T14n0544_p0840a23:子、善女人,有行斯經、奉持[17]諷誦、宣傳後世、令
T14n0544_p0840a24:人受持者,是人如[18]侍我身福無有異。誦斯
T14n0544_p0840a25:經者,當為彌勒佛所授[19]決,如來廣長舌所語
T14n0544_p0840a26:無有異。」
佛說經已,時諸天、龍、鬼神、四輩弟子,
T14n0544_p0840a27:聞經歡喜,為佛作禮。
